The rapid advent of in-vitro organoid development has opened countless new opportunities in understanding the developmental biology of human organs and has very strong potentials in many fields. However, despite the extensive evolution of microscopy techniques, simple live 3D imaging methods compatible with organoid growth in a high-throughput fashion are still lacking.

The Quantitative Imaging of the Cell team @ Interdisciplinary Institute for Neurosciences (IINS, Bordeaux, France) and the laboratory Biomechanics of Cell-Cell Contact @ the Mechanobiology Institute (BMC2, NUS, Singapore) have jointly developed an innovative microscope architecture called soSPIM (single-objective Selective Plane Illumination Microscope)1,2. It combines the advantages of light-sheet microscopy for live 3D imaging with the use of microfabricated devices allowing to control organoid growth in a highly reproducible manner with high throughput capacity.

We are now seeking a talented and motivated engineer specialized in microfabrication and soft-lithography techniques to optimize and develop new fabrication methods for the production of soSPIM devices dedicated to 3D cell-culture and imaging compatible with high throughput workflow.

The project will be conducted in a highly interdisciplinary environment, with academic and industrial partners. It will involve both microfabrication and live imaging of 3D cell cultures. The candidate will be mostly hosted in Bordeaux @ IINS and will be involved in a collaborative project with the BMC2 laboratory @ Singapore and the start-up TreeFrog Therapeutics®, expert in high throughput 3D cell culture. This is a 1 year position with a possibility of extension within one of the academic or industrial partners.
